A practical guide to harnessing good governance to maximise your charity’s effectiveness

Start date: February 26, 2020 4.30pm registration for a 5.00pm start. Ends 6.15pm followed by canapés and refreshments.

Good governance is fundamental to the wellbeing of all charities so it is important that trustee boards take the time to review their governance arrangements and ensure they are fit for purpose. This session will uncover the background for the Governance Code i.e. where it comes from, what it is intended to be and what it actually covers. A working appreciation of the new Charity Governance Code is crucial for all trustees – not just the chair of the Board.

Where to start? Moore Kingston Smith’s Not for Profit Partner Silvia Vitiello will talk about how to select your trustees; the types of roles, training and skills that the board should consider, whilst Debenhams Ottaway’s Partner Andrew Yates will talk about the legal and structural modernisation of the constitution; how this varies for different types of structures. Andrew will also cover the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a CIO.
