Charities update 2017 – Lessons from the past, thoughts about the future

Start date: January 17, 2017 4.30pm

Kingston Smith team up once more with IBB Solicitors for their annual charities update, designed to bring you up to speed with the legal and regulatory developments in the charity sector and also take a look at how charities can prepare as they head in to an increasingly uncertain future.

Paul Ridout and Rosie Brass from the IBB Charities team will start proceedings with an overview of how new legislation is already changing the way the Charity Commission operates and a round-up of regulatory lessons from 2016, covering governance issues as well as developments in the world of fundraising. Changes to the data protection landscape will also be covered.

In the second half of the seminar, Mahmood Ramji and Luke Holt from the Kingston Smith Charities team will update you on accounting, reporting and related developments through 2016 and what to expect in 2017. They will provide some perspective on the practical implementation of the new SORP and FRS 102, as well as the recent SORP consultation exercise. They will also discuss the implementation of CC20 which covers trustees’ responsibilities in respect of fundraising, the new Fundraising Regulator and other key developments in the sector.

The proceedings will finish with a discussion of the challenges that the sector may face in light of some of the wider political upheavals of 2016.
