Announcing our new Charity Partner: Dementia UK
We’re delighted to share that, following a firmwide vote, our people have chosen Dementia UK as our new Charity Partner for the next three years. The organisation supports families affected by dementia, an issue that matters deeply to us and aligns closely with the firm’s commitment to wellbeing.
Dementia is one of the biggest health challenges of our time. Nearly one million people in the UK are living with this complex condition, and it doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed – family and friends also feel its impact. People find themselves left to cope with relentless challenges without support, and families often take on caring responsibilities that can significantly impact their physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nursing charity, dedicated to ensuring that everyone affected by dementia receives life-changing support from its Admiral Nurses. These highly trained nurses are a lifeline for families, helping them navigate the challenges that dementia can bring. The charity provides free, expert advice and compassionate care, whether through its Helpline, virtual and face-to-face clinics, or in the community.
Matt Meadows, Managing Partner of Moore Kingston Smith, said: “We’re proud that our people have chosen to partner with Dementia UK and help make a real difference to families across the UK. Dementia touches so many lives, and through this partnership, we can help increase the number of Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses, expand the charity’s vital services and transform health and care systems so everyone affected gets the support they need.”
Through the Moore Kingston Smith Community Foundation, we’ll raise funds and awareness through initiatives such as Moving Moore for the Million, which sees participants walk, jog or run 24 miles during World Alzheimer’s Month to represent the 700,000 UK carers supporting loved ones 24 hours a day. We’ll also have opportunities to take part in exciting challenge events, including 10k swims, marathons, ultra-challenges and skydives.
We’ll bring colleagues together to talk about dementia, raise vital funds and volunteer, from supporting policy and public affairs campaigns to joining weekend events as Cheerpoint Champions. And we’re starting strong – our Community Foundation pledged a donation for every vote cast in the charity selection process, raising an initial £1,534 for Dementia UK.
We also want to recognise the two other fantastic charities that were shortlisted in the vote, Blood Cancer UK and Young Lives vs Cancer. To honour their work, we’re donating £500 to each of their causes. All three charities have been invited to participate in Feedback for Good, a programme run by Performance Leader, the provider of our internal feedback platform. This initiative makes it easy for our people to create impact simply by sharing feedback. Every time someone submits feedback through the platform, they’ll have the option to nominate one of these charities as a beneficiary.
Dr Hilda Hayo, CEO and Chief Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK said: “We are thrilled to partner with Moore Kingston Smith over the next three years, working together towards our vision of a world where no one faces dementia alone. Thank you so much to every colleague who voted for Dementia UK, and to everyone who will join us in making an incredible impact for families across the UK. Our specialist dementia nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, are crucial in bridging huge gaps in dementia support and providing a lifeline to families when they need it most. On behalf of Dementia UK and the families we support, thank you once again.”
We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our previous Charity Partner, St Giles, for the incredible work they do and the positive impact they’ve made during our partnership. As a national social mobility charity, St Giles provides advice and training to people affected by poverty, exploitation and abuse, or who face challenges such as addiction, mental health issues and involvement in crime. Their support helps individuals overcome barriers and build brighter futures, and we’re proud to have contributed to their mission.
We’re excited about this next chapter with Dementia UK and the positive change we can create together. One in two people will be affected by dementia in their lifetime, so this is a cause that resonates across Moore Kingston Smith.
