Biblioteksbladet: Karl Leathem’s expertise on libraries’ contribution to community wellbeing sought by Swedish Libraries Association
Karl Leathem’s inspirational impact report for Suffolk Libraries (Oct 2019) revealed that for every pound invested, more than £8 was delivered in social value. This includes such aspects as reduced loneliness and stress that can result from library services. The story has been picked up by the editor of the Swedish Libraries Association’s editor, who interviewed Karl for more detail. He said that giving the social impact of libraries a monetary worth can help public funders make financial decisions. For example, individuals with mental illness can have regular contact with others during the open space sessions, which helps them manage their condition.
