Martin Muirhead appointed chair of APA

At the AGM of the Association of Practising Accountants (APA) on 7 October 2019, Martin Muirhead was appointed the new chair. Muirhead is senior partner of top 20 accountancy and business advisory firm Moore Kingston Smith. The APA represents a significant voice in the accountancy profession and has steadily gained prominence in recent years.

Presented in numbers, the APA consists of 15 mid-sized accountancy firms supporting some 14,000 clients with a combined turnover of around £320 million. Muirhead is a council member of Chartered Accountants and vice chair of the Practice Committee of the ICAEW, bringing considerable expertise and gravitas to the APA.

Muirhead said: “I’m delighted to be appointed chair of the APA. Outgoing chair Clive Stevens has helped steward the group through the debate on the future of audit and galvanise the APA. I’m looking forward to building on all this good work the association has achieved, in terms of expanding its membership and strengthening its lobbying activities. The APA has the potential to become a weighty force in shaping the future of the profession, which is very exciting.”
