Moore Kingston Smith hosts external development leaders at a private roundtable

Our video games team hosted a roundtable for leaders from the UK’s external development sector on Tuesday 20 January.

Timed to coincide with Pocket Gamer Connects London and hosted by George E. Osborn of Video Games Industry Memo, the session gave senior leaders from a key part of the global video games industry a chance to discuss their experiences in an ever-changing market.

External development: Key themes

The group agreed that the external development sector had found comparative stability within a rapidly evolving games market, with businesses able to offer specialist expertise to video game developers requiring support with services like quality assurance, back-end operations for live-service games, and creative development services.

While external development may be seen to lack the ‘glamour’ of other market sectors, attendees agreed that the UK has an opportunity to position itself as a base for world class external development services given the strong track record of companies based in the country. There was also appetite in the room for external development studios to build upon their supportive internal community by creating shared reports, research and infrastructure to ensure the businesses that quietly support a near $200bn market receive the credit they deserve.

Future roundtables

Moore Kingston Smith runs a series of private roundtables throughout the year to offer senior leaders across all aspects of the games industry a chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges they face in the workplace.
