Moore Kingston Smith Media Summit – 25 November 2025

18 November 2025 / Insight posted in

The media industry is undergoing a period of profound disruption and uncertainty. A difficult macroeconomic climate, combined with shifting consumer behaviours, continues to squeeze margins. Meanwhile, the accelerating impact of AI is adding new layers of complexity, disrupting traditional models and prompting a reassessment of long-term strategy. As a result, questions around sustainable growth are becoming increasingly urgent across the sector.

Growth in the media industry is rarely a straight line – even in stable times. So what does the path forward look like in today’s environment? At our upcoming Moore Kingston Smith Media Summit, we’ll explore how leading businesses are adapting and staying ahead, with a focus on four key sectors: TV & film, music, video games and marketing services.

Film, TV and commercial production

The rebirth of co-productions – Why is everyone co-producing again?

After a near 90% drop in the number of co-productions when sale and leaseback ended in the early 2000s, it appears that every film producer is once again looking to partner up with an overseas producer. The introduction of the enhanced AVEC (IFTC) for low budget treaty co-productions, the UK government’s desire to sign an increasing number of treaties with overseas partners and reduced traditional sources of financing are leading British producers to once again seek out co-producing opportunities with their colleagues overseas.

Join us for a discussion of the mechanics, advantages and pitfalls of teaming up with a co-producing partner. Utilising one of the UK’s many treaties can have real benefits on both the production and financing side for your feature film. In addition, we will examine how the enhanced VFX tax credit strengthens the position of the UK’s visual effects-driven producers and fuels the appetite for co-productions.
