SBTi approves Moore Kingston Smith’s science-based targets

26 September 2025 / Insight posted in Press releases

We’re pleased to announce our near-term, long-term and net zero targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions to play their part in combating the climate crisis. It provides a robust framework, developing standards, tools and guidance for companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. These targets are aligned with the latest climate science, aiming to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and achieve net-zero by 2050 at the latest, in line with the UK’s government’s commitment helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth.

This validation, the culmination of two years of work on our decarbonisation strategy, marks Moore Kingston Smith’s move towards more sustainable operations and reflects our dedication to long-term responsibility. We’re embedding sustainability through every aspect of our business, ensuring we continue to provide insightful advice for our clients and an inspirational workplace for our colleagues, while contributing positively to the environment.

Our approved science-based targets

  • Overall net zero target: We commit to reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.
  • Near-term targets: We commit to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year. We also commit to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations and business travel 25% within the same timeframe.
  • Long-term targets: We commit to reducing absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel and employee commuting 90% by 2050 from a 2023 base year.

The approved targets form the foundation of our net zero strategy as we continue to understand and address the challenges of today and tomorrow. Achieving these significant reductions in our emissions will be driven by our Natural World Committee, a branch of our Sustainability Committee, which will lead the business in reaching these goals, and we’ll share updates on our progress.
