The new Code of Fundraising Practice is now live!
This revised Code is now enforceable, as of 1 November. It introduces a principles-based approach, moving away from overly prescriptive rules. The aim is to provide a more enduring framework, where core principles remain stable over time. As a result, fundraisers will need to exercise greater judgement in interpreting best practice. Naturally, future investigations and their outcomes will help clarify areas that remain ambiguous.
To support the sector, the Fundraising Regulator has also released new guidance documents covering:
- fundraising events;
- fundraising on social media;
- online gaming and fundraising (published in July); and
- cashless donations (published in September).
Charity fundraisers should regularly review their policies to ensure alignment with the new Code. Trustees, too, must maintain robust oversight of their charity’s fundraising strategy and compliance processes.
