James Kesner

James is a partner in the firm’s Media Corporate Finance team, advising founders and leadership teams across the marketing services sector on equity transactions. With more than 20 years’ experience in the people and tech-led marketing services space, he focuses on helping agency owners navigate pivotal moments in their growth journey. 

James specialises in transactions for founder-owned and private equity-backed businesses. He has also advised private equity buyers on larger transactions, giving him a broad perspective on what different types of acquirers are looking for and the market themes driving value. 

Having spent the early part of his career as a Chief Financial and Operating Officer within an agency before moving into M&A, James brings both operational understanding and deep sector insight. He also has over 20 years’ investment banking experience, advising on deals up to £200 million enterprise value. 

Clients value James’ combination of M&A expertise and his hands-on, personable approach. He works closely with owners over time to help them understand what ‘good’ looks like ahead of a deal and to structure a transaction with the right partner and optimal deal structure. 

James is a member of the ICAEW and is FCA-regulated. Alongside his client work, he mentors emerging talent in the industry.
