Within Moore Kingston Smith, Martin headed the firm’s Real Estate and Construction Group for over 20 years. He was Chair of Moore Kingston Smith Financial Advisers Ltd, the firm’s FCA-registered independent wealth management business, and was also an active member of the firm’s governance board, which is the elected body charged with governance and equity matters.
Outside of the firm, Martin is Chair of the Association of Practising Accountants – the representative body of medium-sized accounting firms. He is a member of the Group A, which is the organisation representing the main challenger firms in the UK.
A member of the council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Martin is also Vice Chair of the ICAEW Practice Committee, which works to influence ICAEW policy on issues affecting practitioners. Additionally, he is a member of the Academy of Experts.
Away from the world of accountancy, Martin is the current Master of the Worshipful Company of Horners and a trustee of the Horners’ charitable trusts. His commitment to charity also saw Martin found Moore Kingston Smith’s charity committee, which he chaired for years, spearheading major initiatives that have gone from strength to strength. He is also Treasurer of Whitstable Yacht Club.
Still with time to spare, Martin enjoys music, restaurants, travelling, sailing, fly-fishing and shooting. A keen cyclist, he participates in endurance bike rides for charity every year.
