Sean Bonnington
Sean Bonnington’s charity sector career has now spanned five decades. During that time, he has held roles from Community Fundraiser through Head of Major Gifts to Director of Fundraising. His most recent position was Director of Fundraising at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, a position he held for over 11 years. This has given him considerable and wide-ranging experience at both operational and strategic level fundraising. Most recently this has been extensively in the field of major gifts, particularly in the education, medical and military sectors.
He has been successful in raising both capital and revenue income. He was responsible for securing funding for a new paediatric radiology facility at Great Ormond Street Hospital. At Cambridge University, he was part of the team raising funds for a new Department of Chemistry library. And at St Mark’s Hospital Foundation, he secured the funding for both the capital build and revenue funding for its Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing.
Outside his working life, he is especially proud of his role as one of two UK-based trustees in establishing the Danja Fistula Centre in Niger. Opened in 2012, this provides comprehensive services to women suffering from childbirth injuries. Currently, Sean is a trustee of the Broderers’ Charity Trust and a special advisor to both the Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Transport Safety and the University College of Osteopathy Board.
