Alex Horton is a partner in the firm’s media team, bringing over 12 years’ experience in guiding individuals and owner-managed businesses in the entertainment industry. He advises clients across film, TV and theatre regarding technical tax issues such as creative industry tax relief claims and a variety of HMRC tax inquiries.

Knowing the sector inside out, Alex provides tailored advice around tax rules unique to the entertainment industry. He is adept at advising actors, directors, writers, composers, social media influencers and production companies, understanding that his clients are busy creatives seeking straightforward, pragmatic advice. His extensive expertise in cross-border tax matters is supported by experience working with Los Angeles-based firms, overseeing US filing obligations and tax planning for UK clients, to the benefit of those with an international element to them.

Having worked his way up to partner at a specialist media and entertainment firm, Alex’s career has been entirely dedicated to the sector. Well-versed in corporate profit extraction strategies, cashflow management, regulatory compliance, overseas tax compliance and family tax planning, Alex has also advised owner-managed businesses on corporate sales and provided back catalogue valuations for musical composers and authors.

Approachable and above all else trusted, clients value Alex’s integrity. They’ll often ask, “what would you do?”, knowing he is acutely aware of the challenges they’re up against, from cash flow to industry pressures, complemented by his ability to offer timely advice and robust solutions.

Alex’s specialist expertise and passion for the media space have seen him run industry events, including a series of in-house tax seminars for large talent agencies, explaining the application of IR35 within the entertainment world when new rules came in for the private sector – an intricate area of tax that remains complex today.
