M&A activity in the media and marketing services sectors Q3 2021

M&A activity in Q3 2021 has greatly exceeded expectations, with the number of deals recorded outstripping anything we’ve seen in the last three years. Seller confidence remains high and acquirer interest has soared over the summer months, with private equity and trade acquirers actively pursuing potential targets far more than ever before.

Unsurprisingly, most interest has been in the digital marketing space. In August, Moore Kingston Smith’s Corporate Finance team provided transaction support to AIM-listed global social media and marketing company Brave Bison, which acquired digital advertising and commerce agencies Greenlight Digital and Greenlight Commerce in a £6.8 million deal it described as transformational and representing a strategic leap.

Although there certainly has not been a let-up in M&A activity, it remains to be seen whether the continued escalation in commodity prices, supply chain breakdowns and the potential return of inflation – coupled with the continued impact of Coronavirus – will have an effect on the media and marketing services sectors as we move towards the end of the year.
